The title track ‘I’ve been condemned’ was penned during a set of jam sessions in Pirate Studios in Cabra. Kenan, along with a group of talented artists and good friends, would write and collaborate on each other’s music to make up for the creative and socialising time lost over the months of the lockdown in March through June. This is clearly one of Kenan’s rawest and most open pieces to date. It discusses the story of a man riddled with deep seated depression and suffering with alcohol abuse. The man dissects the world around him and his choices, ultimately coming to the realisation that “it just takes too much to be who I am,” He swallows his pain and sorrow with drink and drugs, seeing the world around him moving at a much more productive and faster rate than he himself is capable of. He believes that “if drinking is living, I’ve lived as drunk as I can,” The track is driven by Kenan’s unique finger picking style and incorporates low droning notes with little inner chord melodies. This track is influenced by dark storytelling from artists such as Passenger, Townes Van Zandt and Benjamin Todd. It is folk storytelling at its core. more
